Vienna

Ok so, not much to post here, but Vienna is a really nice city. I went to the art-history museum and walked around all day inside... The primary purpose of this visit was the air conditioning. Seriously, it is WAY too hot to be Vienna. There is no breeze and the temperature is about 43 Celcius... this roughly translates to "way to freaking hot to be a tourist". No matter what you do it involves sweating. Right now I'm in a bar with internet and it's a good 10 degrees hotter inside due to the lack of AC and the close proximity of other persons. Despite the temperature though, Vienna is truly a great place. The food is great and the people speak German! I can actually carry on a conversation again! Well, I'm gonna head out and have another beer. I hope this entry finds you all well, and I'll message again soon!

OK, when it's hot you order "Ein Achtel, gespritzt", which means 1/8 liter of wine, diluted 50:50 with soda water; very refreshing after a hike. If you're not in the mood for alcohol, try Ribiselsaft. Another way to cool down: get out of town and go to a high place, e.g. go upstream on the Danube. Wikipedia says the longest word in the German language is "Donaudampfschifffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft", i.e. organization of junior officers of the Danube Steamship Electricians organization. Note 3 f's. Unfortunately I heard that the DDSG (Donaudampfschiffgesellschaft) is out of business, but there are still boats available for tours; you catch them on the Donaukanal, on the North side of the 1st district.

Just whatever you do, remember to never eat ice. It could kill you, just like a breeze (Zugluft) in a traveling vehicle.

Love, Papa
